What is the Ready to Burn scheme?
The Ready to Burn scheme, is a government backed scheme designed to promote the burning of dry firewood. To be classed as "Ready to Burn", firewood must have a moisture content of below 20%.This is important because by burning Ready to Burn firewood you could reduce smoke emissions by up to 75%, when compared to burning wet wood.
With poor
air quality a contributing to the premature deaths of 40,000 people every
year (WHO, 2011), switching to Ready to Burn Firewood can have a
positive effect on air quality, the environment and your health.
In addition to the environmental benefits using Ready to Burn firewood is also better for your appliance as wet wood
can lead to a blackening of the stove glass and a build up of soot in
your chimney.
